Artists & Performers

For the first time, CASSA plans to host a South Asian Summer Festival to recognize the diversity within South Asians and to celebrate our contributions to Canada.  Toronto Mela 2012 will feature South Asian cultural dance, music, and other artistic performances from 12pm to 5pm. Each hour is allocated exclusively to language and culture centric performances including Tamil, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and Bengali. Following that, from 6pm. to 9pm, a three-hour program dedicated to diversity of the South Asian cultures. To entertain our guests, many leading artists in the GTA including Tricube Dance, Taal Multicultural group, and Dance group of Poroma will be performing at the Albert Campbell Square stage. Tricube Dance is one of the leading Bollywood dance companies that have been featured in a variety of social and corporate community events, as well as participated in the prestigious North American Spring Dancesport Championships. Taal multicultural group is known for its contemporary, folk, Rabintrik, and Odissi performing arts and offer exclusive training classes on their expertise. In total, over fifty performers are scheduled to provide you the unforgettable entertainment.

Council of Agencies Serving South Asians is currently looking for Artists and Performers producing South Asian art for our Toronto Mela Summer Festival. This will be a one day festival bringing together art, culture and information sharing in a summer’s day through a festive environment. Our call-out requests for artists and performers of all kinds; singers, dancers, on stage theatre actors among others to bring forth themselves and their ideas for CASSA’s Toronto Mela. Our hope is that the collaboration of ideas from CASSA and various artists and performers will lead to an excellent collection of ideas that we can hopefully follow through with on the day of the festival.
